Garrett and Maria’s love story began in 2018 at the end of their freshman year at Elmhurst College. Sharing 2 classes together meeting on opposite days, the two, strangers at the time, spent the whole semester in class everyday. As the semester ended, Maria reached out and they went on a date. Little did they know that their first date for pizzas at Buona Beef and Top Golf would be the beginning of their love story.

From sorority functions to slow pitch softball games Garrett and Maria have been be each other’s sides through it all. Neither Garrett nor Maria ended up staying at Elmhurst. That couldn’t stop them from supporting each other. Garrett stood by Maria's side while she went through nursing school and is now an ICU nurse. Additionally Maria supported Garrett in his journey to becoming a firefighter.

Most recently Garrett and Maria have bought their first home in August of 2025! They have been loving small house projects along with hosting their family and friends.

On September 15th 2025, Garrett asked Maria to marry him! It was the easiest decision Maria has ever made, her answer was yes!

The future Mr. and Mrs. Focht are beyond excited to celebrate their big day surrounded by all the family and friends they love so much!
